​The activity, "Growth Deficiency in Children: Evolving Treatment Strategies for Body and Mind" was presented as a Breakfast Symposium that was held at the 2010 PENS Annual Conference in Atlanta, Georgia.

Activity Description:
Growth deficiency in children is a difficult disorder to manage both physically and psychologically. Health care professionals must be aware of the available options for treatment and counseling. This activity will review the use of growth hormone therapy in conditions such as Turner syndrome and chronic renal insufficiency. The effects of psychosocial deprivation on stature will also be evaluated. Treatment regimens and dosage requirements of growth hormone will be presented. Tools for counseling patients and their families on handling the psychosocial difficulties of growth deficiency will be discussed.
